This phone’s so good I’d buy another one if I needed to replace it. In fact, I just did because the one I’ve had for 4 years suddenly busied-out my phone line for no apparent reason. Mysterious electronic glitch was readily solved by buying another one.

Except when I plugged the new unit in, using the old AC adapter and phone line cord, the green “line in use” button immediately lit up, leading me to say #^%%&@#! Japanese electronics I HATE them!!!!

Then I thought, and thought some more. I switched out the old phone cord with the new phone cord and VOILA, everything worked fine. Including the old phone. Seems my nemesis, Mr. Corrosion (I live on the beach) went to work on the plug contacts — something I’d never seen before.

So it’s back to the store with the new one for a refund, and another X years of telephonic bliss to look forward to.

This phone is reliable, has great range, never creates or accepts interference (it’s immune to cellphones, wireless Internet, home theater systems, AC/DC, microwaves, birds, dogs, wives, etc.) and has a very entertaining audible caller ID.

I know it isn’t the phone’s fault, but it does sound like like someone who needs English 101 is letting you know who’s calling.

Overall, a terrific product. Based on my experience, I give it 6 stars.

PANASONIC HAS ADMITTED CRUCIAL DESIGN FLAW IN THIS SYSTEM – Honest American Reviewer – seeking foie gras, Anywhere, USA
I have been a big fan of Panasonic cordless phones, have owned several (systems), so I ordered this system before it was even shipping, was probably one of the first in the country to receive it.

Unfortunately, after a week and a half of being jerked around by Panasonic customer service (they promised on three occasions that they were sending a replacement set, even though they knew that they wouldn’t be–see below) they finally admitted that there is a design problem with capacitors in the handset. The result is that if a handset is more than a few feet away from the base unit, the phone rings continuously (rather than having a pause between rings) and continues to ring for 7-10 seconds after a call is answered. The handsets also do not show caller i.d. You cannot imagine how annoying the continuous ringing is until you have to deal with it every time a call comes in.

I was promised by two separate supervisors on three separate occasions that they would be calling back with a tracking number for the shipment of a replacement system, which they insisted on doing, rather than, for example, just sending a signal booster unit. But in each case, no one ever called back. One time I waited from Monday to Friday for a call that never came, then from a Friday to end of day Monday.

When one of the supervisors insisted that she never told me that she was calling back with a tracking number (that was the Mon-Fri wait) I finally got to a “senior supervisor,” who explained about the capacitor problem, and as of 4/27, has assured me that new capacitors are on the way from Japan, and once they have been placed in handsets, I’ll receive replacements. She insisted that the supervisors I dealt with knew about this “known problem,” which apparently also occurs in two of Panasonic’s 2009 models. So when I first called about this, and the supervisor took a half hour of my time having me try the remote handsets in different rooms–different distances from the base unit–she was simply going through a process to confirm what Panasonic already knew, just for the benefit of engineers, while making it seem like she was trying to help in some way.

No, I am not paranoid, this is based on what the senior supervisor told me, i.e., she apologized for the supervisors promising to send new units, and said that yes, the supervisor who had me do the “testing” was being guided by folks from engineering. And, apparently, the promised shipments that never happened were based on wishing/hoping that the replacement capacitors had already arrived in the U.S., which, obviously, they hadn’t.

So Panasonic shipped a new product that it knew had a design flaw, and then jerked me around until it finally had no choice other than to admit that the product needed a fix, and admit that they have no firm date by which the replacement will be ready (and in the meantime, as I understand it, they continue to sell the flawed 2009 models as well as this new model).

I am a long time buyer of Panasonic products (have also been buying computers and other tech equipment since about 1983, so I am not a novice at this), and for years have replied to anyone who asked what kind of cordless phones to buy, “Panasonic, and nothing else” because of their overall voice quality, features, and dependability.

But based on their irresponsible and incompetent customer service (I wasted more than two hours in three separate phone calls before they told me the truth, there is lots more in terms of dishonest responses, but I won’t go on any more about it), and the fact that they continue to ship flawed products, my days as a Panasonic customer are over (did someone say “Samsung”?)

I love this phone. I can listen to who is calling and screen my calls without having to stop what I am doing when the phone rings. It flashes when I have a new message but if I listen to it the flashing stops. My old phone had a number to let you know how many messages you had even if they were old.

Looked up reviews and researched many phones before deciding on this phone because of its supposed quality with reasonable cost. The battery dies on this phone really quick and sometimes won’t charge when on the charger. Another major issue is sometimes when I pick up the phone to answer it says not connected to base and you have to either press talk repeatedly or try and run back to the base to re hang it up and then pick it up again before the caller on the other end hangs up. Terrible. Basically choose another phone any phone, it couldn’t be worse than this one

Purchased this phone to replace a DECT 6 Uniden 6 handset unit. The range on the Uniden was fairly short (compared to my old 900 Mhz one) and the battery issues were getting on my nerves!!!! The handsets would not stay charged and to replace the batteries- they were an order item. This Panasonic phone does hula hoops around my DECT 6.0 Uniden!!! Twice the range and guess what? The batteries are replaceable Ni-MH AAA style!!!! I love the talking caller ID (which you can edit the ’said’ name if it is in your contacts). Just an all around great phone- comfortable, solid, and more features than you could imagine- all the way down to turning off the display if it is sitting in it’s cradle- a nice feature to have it is on your nightstand. Want to get rid of the tone when you press a button? No problem– there is a menu toggle for that- Want to set the unit to silent mode for a couple hours while you take a nap? No problem– there is a feature for that!!! Want to set an alarm- guess what- you guessed it- there is a feature for that!!! The handsets even know when you are close to the base unit and go into powersave mode due to the short range needed to keep your call crystal clear. Just an absolute best buy in my opinion!!!

I purchase this product after having read the reviews on same. I needed a two line cordless phone that was expandable. The ONLY thing I like about this phone is its size. The quality of the reception leaves much to be desired and it often produces very loud and annoying sounds of unknown origin while in use. I also find it very complicated to save callers’ names and phone numbers. My prior system saved the names and numbers with the press of a button and allowed call back the same way. This does not save the “1″ necessary to call back.

Panasonic has created a high-quality, yet relatively inexpensive cordless phone system with the DECT 6.0. We needed to replace an older Radio Shack system that worked well for many years, but finally started to fail after many battery replacements and a lot of use. These phones worked perfectly out of the box, were easy to set up and program and have given us very reliable service for the past month. Since we use a voicemail system that comes as part of our Comcast VoIP system, we aren’t using the built-in answering system on the phones, so I can’t comment on its use.

One interesting feature is the use of rechargeable AA batteries. These batteries are very easy to swap out, and presumably the phone would also work with standard AA batteries in a pinch. I haven’t tried that though.

Audio quality is excellent. The talking caller-ID works well, although we chuckle at some of the pronunciations, especially when the CID data is abbreviated. The display screen is quite bright, so much so that it can almost light up a room at night. That makes it easy to see who’s calling even in darkened room. The keypad also lights up brightly, making it easy to punch in numbers.

All told, we’ve been very happy with these phones.

The people writing bad reviews for all the Panasonic Cordless phones must have a different colored phone. If you would read the details on each of the extension phones, for some reason the White Phone has a different type battery than the silver, violet, or black. It has an NiMH battery that can be charged without running down. The others have a NiCAD battery of which I can’t figure out why. It doesn’t make since to have one you have to run completely down. You should have full time usage of the cordless phone. I never leaave my phone off the charger for a long time. It’s always back in the charger by at least bedtime. I love the phones except for that. I don’t know panasonic was thinking about. They should make all the other ones good by supplying a NiMH battery and a new charger.

A supplemental handset, the KX-TGA271W provides increased functionality to your existing Panasonic KX-TG2700S, KX-TG2720S, KX-TG2730S, KX-TG2740S, KX-TG2750S, or KX-TG2770S phone system. Up to eight handsets can be added to your existing system, providing up to five-way conferencing capabilities. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency, 89 channels of auto-scan, and frequency hopping digital spread spectrum technology, the KX-TGA271W offers clear, intelligible reception even at a distance. A 50 number speed dial memory makes dialing the most frequently called number a snap, while the caller ID memory provides a record of the 50 most recent incoming calls.

The redial function makes it easy to call the last outgoing number, while a page/handset locator feature makes finding a lost handset quick and painless. Handset and ringer controls allow you to adjust volume levels to you liking, and six ring tones are provided for you to choose from. A voice mail message indicator lets you know when you have messages (requires subscription to a fee-based service), while a low battery indicator lets your know when to return the handset to its cradle for re-charging.

A nice system overall, but not nearly perfect. We purchased a set of these to replace our burnt out Siemens Gigaset 2402 system. While we were happy to have something that worked (the Siemens system had died a slow death over about a year and ultimately became unusable after a little over two years of use) the features and design of this system leave much to be desired. Numerous minor inconveniences and awkwardnesses make these phones less than they could be–nothing major, and perhaps only noticeable when compared with the excellently designed Siemens phones (really nothing more than the difference between Japanese and German design).

Two features stand out in comparison with our retired Siemens phones, one negative and one positive. On the positive side, these phones support detection of voice messages on an existing message system, so that it is easy to see from any handset whether there are unplayed messages on either line. On the negative side, the system does not support handset naming. We imagined this would be a minor inconvenience when we bought the phones, but it has proved to be a major drawback: there’s simply no way to get the entire family to learn what number goes with what phone. When we had the Siemens system, which supports handset naming, the we had a working intercom system (not to mention convenient transfers of calls); now we’re back to shouting.
